pH Tips and Tricks!

Learning how to manage pH can be tricky, but with my tried and true tips and tricks, you can take care of your garden like a pH pro!

Getting Started & pH Up/Down

DON'T LET pH GET YOU DOWN! TRY THIS!

Observe the color of the veins and leaf to determine if you may have a pH issues. They should match. Here, you can see dark veins and light leaves. If you see this, test your pH.

To determine the amount of pH UP or pH DOWN that you need every time you fill up your Tower Garden, follow these steps when you first set up your Tower Garden FLEX:

1. Fill the Tower Garden basin with water. Use non-softened, chlorine, and chloramine-free water.

2. Add 200 ml of A. Stir. Add 200ml of B. (200ml is the proper amount for seedlings)

3. Plug your pump in to circulate the water. Wait a few hours for the pH to adjust.

4. Test your pH. Add a small amount of pH down or pH up if needed. I use the cap to 'measure,' but you can also use a tsp or tablespoon.

5. Test again. If needed, repeat #4 until your pH is 5.5.

6. Make a note of how much pH down or pH up you needed to add to reach a pH of 5.5.

The number you get (for example, 2 capfuls) is the number you need to add every time you fill up your Tower Garden.

If your Tower Garden is half empty, then you'll add half as much water. Add half as much pH down or up. A full Tower Garden holds 20 gallons of water.

If your Tower Garden is 1/4 empty, then add 1/4 as much pH down or up.

Going forward, you will test the pH if you observe a problem in the color of your plant leaves. The leaves should be the same color as the veins.

As long as the veins in the leaves and the leaf is the same color, you're doing fine. If your veins and leaf are the same color, you don't even need to test your pH.

JUST ASSUME IT'S GOOD.

---->You can measure the exact amount of water with a hose-end meter (like the one below) IF YOU WANT: OR you can eyeball it.

5 GALLON Method

HAVING TROUBLE ADJUSTING YOUR PH? TRY THIS!

First, determine the amount of pH UP and pH DOWN that you need every time you add 5 gallons of water.

Do this:

1 Get a 5 gallon bucket (if indoors, use a 2.5 gallon mop bucket and halve the nutrients).

2 Fill the bucket up with water. Use non-softened, chlorine and chloramine free water.

3 Add 100 ml of A. Stir. Add 100ml of B. Stir.

4 Test your pH. Add a small amount of pH down or pH up if needed. I use the cap to 'measure' but you can also use a tsp or tablespoon.

5 Stir well and wait 2 hours. Stir again and test again. If needed, repeat #4 until your pH is 5.5.

6 Make a note of how much pH down or pH up you needed to add to reach a pH of 5.5.

The number you get (for example, 2 capfuls) is the number you need to add every time you add 5 gallons of water.

  • Every time you add 5 gallons of water to your Tower Garden, add that much pH down or pH up.

  • ONLY test your pH in you observe a problem in the color of your plant leaves. The leaves should be the same color as the veins.

As long as the veins in the leaves and the leaf is the same color, you're doing fine. If your veins and leaf is the same color, you don't even need to test your pH. JUST ASSUME IT'S GOOD.
