If you feel lost this year about what spring and fall crops to plant or want to expand your already established list of options, you'll love my list of heat-tolerant varieties to grow in the Tower Garden. This list is a suitable guide for Tower Garden growing throughout ALL zones of Florida.
Remember: the Tower Garden keeps the plant's roots cooler, so you have wiggle room with what you can plant and when!
This list is appropriate for north, central, and south Florida.
My List
TOMATOES
Witham's tomato collection
PEPPERS
Whitwham's sweet peppers collection
CUCUMBERS
Summer Dance (excellent for South Florida!)
(If you are growing your Tower Garden in a spot where you don't have pollinators, then choose a 'greenhouse parthenocarpic cucumber,' like:)
SQUASH
Dunja Zucchini (This is a good choice if growing on a screened-in patio/pool cage, as it does not require pollinators.)
SPINACH
Kolibri (Spinach loves cold temperatures and can be planted from October through late February. I recommend this spinach as the best 'all weather' spinach I have grown. It is the least likely to bolt in the heat.)
CELERY
BEANS AND PEAS (NOTE: I plant beans in spring and fall and peas in winter)
LETTUCE
GOOSEBERRIES
BROCCOLI
Piracicaba broccoli (This is heat-tolerant sprouting (similar to Chinese) broccoli from Brazil. See a video of it here)
GREENS
HERBS
Cilantro (Plant in Oct/Nov)
Prospera® Basil (this is the best disease-resistant variety I have found)
Mint (remove the mint plant every month and trim the roots)
MELONS
EGGPLANT
FLOWERS (for attracting pollinators and preventing pests)
