All About Indoor Tower Gardening!

Updated: 13 hours ago

Indoor growing is fun, comfortable, and very productive! In a cool environment, you can grow cold-weather crops like spinach and cilantro, as well as lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers, all summer long and avoid the bugs, heat, and sun that can sometimes be overwhelming in our Florida summers!

What do I need to buy?

To garden indoors, you need either the:

What Should I Grow Indoors?

Pay special attention to choosing the proper cucumber and tomato varieties indoors!

Choose ANY lettuce, micro-dwarf tomatoes, mini cucumber (self-pollinating, please!), small peppers (like Lunchbox Peppers!) arugula, parsley, celery, small peppers, peas, chives, large or small bok choy, or spinach, or similar greens or herbs!

 TIPS:

  • Grow dill for small spaces: (dill can get to be 4 ft tall! This one will be good for indoors)

  • Choose smaller eggplants: (choose what looks good to you - smaller is better)

  • Li Ren Choy is small enough for the Baby Greens sections. Asian delight is similar.

  • You can buy these strawberries and plant them like this:

Growing tomatoes indoors is fun! Keep them small and manageable. Grow microdwarf types, pretty please! Large tomatoes are not manageable indoors. Microdwarfs are lovely and tasty. Our favorites include Orange Hat & Rosy Finch!

Cucumbers are a very rewarding crop to grow! Home-grown cucumbers have a beautiful flavor and a satisfying crunch that is often missing from expensive store-bought cucumbers.

Growing crispy, crunchy cucumbers indoors is a lot of fun, and I'm betting you'll be obsessed (like I am!) with watching those little babies grow!=

Here are some of my best tips for successfully growing these mini cucumbers yourself:

  • Cucumber plants produce a lot of foliage that can block the grow lights, so add in a grow light that you can clip onto the cage. I like to slide the grow lights behind the foliage to add light from behind the plant. More light = more cucumbers!

  • Prune your cucumber plants so that you are managing the size of the plant. This is very important indoors! Here's a helpful article on the how and why to prune cucumbers.

  • Start your seed indoors. This is important so you don't accidentally introduce pests into your system.

  • Plant ONE seed per cube and grow ONE cucumber per indoor Tower Garden. The vines grow long!

Enjoy growing crispy, crunchy cucumbers indoors!

Victory Seed Company was kind enough to create a "hydroponic pack" for all of my friends! This selection of seeds will work great indoors. The mini cukes and micro dwarf tomatoes are perfect for growing in the Tower Garden Home! NOTE: I have not personally grown the purple peppers. They look both fun and delicious! Use code "GS24" to save 10% off your order. Let me know what you think!!
